This is a capoeira dodge movement that involves turning the body to the side by laying the bust on the legs, while protecting the face.
Keep the feet in a parallel position and lower the torso. Have the hand closest to the opponent protecting the face and keep the other hand firm in preparation to change movements. The other arm remains behind the body with the palm facing the floor and the legs should be bent in the same way as in cadeira.
The esquiva de lado is also the starting point for doing the queixada.
