Translates as 'sideways dodge' in Portuguese.
This is a capoeira dodge movement that involves turning the body to the side by laying the bust on the legs, while protecting the face.
Step by step guide
- Keep the feet in a parallel position and lower the torso. Have the hand closest to the opponent protecting the face and keep the other hand firm in preparation to change movements.
- The other arm remains behind the body with the palm facing the floor and the legs should be bent in the same way as in cadeira.
- The esquiva de lado is also the starting point for doing the queixada.
