Our group, Raízes do Brasil, was started in the Brazilian capital, Brasília, in 1980. The group was started by Mestre Ralil. Sinuca was born and raised in Brazil. He brought capoeira with him and started our group in Norway in 2007. There are many different styles of capoeira, and we train a type of capoeira called capoeira contemporânea (contemporary capoeira). This type of capoeira is very diverse, and can contain both fast rhythms with fast kicks, and a slower game where the athletes have a playful dialogue with each other. Here, dance and music are mixed with acrobatics, strength and martial arts movements that make capoeira something that suits everyone.
